Overview and Casting
The Real Housewives of Pop Industry was announced as the newest installment in The Real Housewives franchise. The concept of the season was to focus on artists within the music industry, diversifying from the usual cast of socialites from one particular city. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Kandi Burruss, would be chosen to lead the series as a familiar face to the audience; starring in both ongoing series from this point on. Four other housewives would be cast for the first season; Kesha Sebert, Gwen Stefani, Normani Hamilton and Tiffany Pollard; professionally known as New York.
Kandi Burruss, known professionally by her first name, is an American singer, songwriter and producer, best known for being a recurring cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and producing deep cuts for industry artists like P!nk. On this season of RHOPI, Kandi settles into her new role as a label executive and spends the majority of her time in the recording studio preparing her first studio album Downtown and the RHOPI theme song “The Ring Didn't Mean a Thing”. Tragedy strikes as former RHOA cast member Gregg Leakes passes away from cancer, leading Kandi to partner with the Colon Cancer Coalition with the aim of hosting a benefit gala in Leakes’s honor.
Kesha Sebert, known professionally by her first name, is an American singer and former label executive. She has been honored as a legacy artist at the Billboard Music Awards. This season, Kesha focuses on creating the star-studded collaboration “Oui Oui”, while also preparing to officially retire from the music industry. Kesha’s struggles with alcoholism come to light as she battles these demons throughout the season.
Gwen Stefani is an American singer, known for hit singles like “Ok, And?” and “We Met Under the Disco Lights”. Stefani’s storylines give the viewers a look into her job as senator and her personal beliefs, whilst also showcasing her home life and marriage to husband Blake Shelton. Stefani spends her time in the recording studio preparing her final studio album.
Normani Hamilton, known professionally by her first name, is an American singer and breakthrough artist known for smash hits like “Black Girl Magic” and “Ultraviolet”. Normani hits the studio after hearing a rumor that she will be honored with the legacy award at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, while also planning to open her own dance studio. A scandal rocks Normani’s world as her boyfriend is exposed as a cheater, while Normani feuds with former friend Camila Cabello over calls from Cabello’s boyfriend Shawn Mendes.
Tiffany Pollard, known professionally as New York, is an American reality television star, best known for shows such as Flavor of Love and I Love New York. New York’s storylines focus around her jobs as Billboard correspondent and label representative for Atlantic Records. New York is the most combative cast member, often getting into feuds with other castmates including Normani, Gwen Stefani and guest star Nene Leakes.
Kandi: "You can take the high road, but I'm always gonna drive downtown."
Kesha: “Call me a flop, because I like to go down.”
Gwen: “People tell me I’m too controversial. Ok, And?”
Normani: “I don’t use my words to fight, I battle it out on the dance floor.”
New York: “You know you love New York! I know I do!”
RHOPI airs regularly on Bravo in the United States, every Friday night at the 8:00 PM timeslot. The following morning, episodes are uploaded to streaming service Hayu for non-U.S. viewers. Episodes are approximately one hour in length, and are broadcast in standard definition and high definition.
